Dobbiamo, quindi, almeno fissarne le immagini per le future generazioni, prima che siano irrimediabilmente distrutti. Non si tratta di sentimentalismo, ma di assaporare le emozioni, di aprire il cuore e di ritrovare la nostra capacità simbolica – anche se inconsciamente cerchiamo di rimuoverla – per raggiungere ciò che è nascosto. Chi non immagina si spegne…
Sono il simbolo di un elemento essenziale della storia economica, sociale, industriale e marittima del mondo. Ricordano lo sviluppo secolare dell’arte della navigazione, l’ansia di innumerevoli famiglie di marinai, le vicende degli emigranti e gli innumerevoli misteri che il mare custodisce per sempre.
Anche in Italia, del resto: la Eden V – una “nave dei veleni” arenata in Puglia – è stata smantellata misteriosamente nello spazio di alcuni decenni, tra l’incuria generale. I barconi dei migranti che giungono a Lampedusa, e su altre nostre isole e coste, scompaiono presto. I burchi sul Sile costituiscono un vero cimitero, vicino a Treviso. L’àncora apparsa sul molo del Circolo velico che frequento da cinquant’anni sul Lago di Bracciano, scomparsa per cinquant’anni, e riapparsa. Non mancano catene e maniglioni utilizzati per raddrizzare la Costa Concordia (ma volutamente non ho documentato l’agonia della nave), così come le àncore e le imbarcazioni delle tonnare. Infine, i relitti di navi moderne, abbandonati come quelli vicino a Marina di Ravenna.
Forse scrivere di relitti è un modo per esorcizzare il momento in cui ne potrei diventare uno io stesso. Forse è un modo inconscio di chiedere attenzione. Forse è un modo per non essere dimenticato, come sarebbero dimenticati tutti quelli senza nome che hanno navigato e che, tuttavia, ricordo qui.
Voglio mostrare al lettore il varco per entrare in un mondo diverso, immaginario ma reale. Sarà il lettore ad identificarne le caratteristiche.
