I trulli, che, per me bambino, avevano quell’aspetto fiabesco e irreale, con il sottofondo della litania dell’”intervallo”, arcaico metodo per far quadrare i buchi di palinsesto di una televisione alle prime armi.

Eppure, i trulli di Alberobello (ora vero tesoro dell’umanità) da soli, per tanti anni, hanno dato al resto dell’Italia l’immagine della Puglia, quasi non ci fosse il mare, le spiagge infinite, le città vissute. Immagine distorta che sorprendeva quando a scuola sui libri di geografia scoprivamo il resto. E poi, dopo tanti anni, uno schiaffo all’immagine: la nave carica di immigrati albanesi vista e rivista in Tv e narrata meravigliosamente da Gianni Amelio nel 1994 in Lamerica. Ed ecco che l’immagine della Regione cambia radicalmente, ma sempre in maniera disassata rispetto alla verità, così come ci aveva fatto pensare, in una specie di Gomorra ante litteram, LaCapaGira, geniale film del 1999 di Alessandro Piva sulla piccola vita della piccola criminalità. E subito dopo il più complesso Sangue Vivo, di un pugliese dal sangue inglese, Edoardo Winspeare.

Così, per anni, la “visione” della Puglia è andata per conto suo, tirata da una parte all’altra. Poi, i registi di cinema e tv hanno scoperto la “vera” Puglia con le sua straordinarie bellezze, la sua lingua, i suoi pregiudizi, i suoi slanci e i suoi sapori.

Sì, perché, grazie al grande e al piccolo schermo, quello che ci arriva dall’immagine-Puglia è cambiato. Tanti i film e fiction che hanno come sfondo gli scorci pugliesi. Ne abbiamo contati a centinaia negli ultimi anni, tanto da far diventare questa terra l’emblema del Sud, titolo che prima apparteneva forse solo alla Sicilia e alla Campania. E c’è di tutto in questo sterminato elenco. Si può correre sul filo del film d’autore con Ferzan Özpetek, che ha portato i suoi set in Puglia: da Allacciate le cinture a Mine Vaganti, che ci mostra un Riccardo Scamarcio nelle limpide acque del Salento (e, questa sì, è una delle immagini che restano più impresse). O far saltare i botteghini con il più popolare autore pugliese, quel Checco Zalone che ha messo a confronto la “pugliesità” più divertente con il Nord dai riti spesso “incomprensibili” (a proposito, è sempre curioso ricordare che il nome d’arte di Luca Medici non è altro che la storpiatura dell’epiteto pugliese “che cozzalone!”, sinonimo di “che tamarro!”). O ancora, tornare al mitico Lino Banfi, che poca Puglia forse ci ha fatto vedere nei suoi film, ma ne ha fatto diventare decisamente universale l’immagine attraverso il dialetto. Un mito del cinema, così mitico che persino Quentin Tarantino davanti a noi, in un festival di Venezia, si mise in ginocchio chiamandolo maestro. Tanto che, assieme al foggiano Renzo Arbore e a Michele Placido (nato in un paesino tra Puglia e Basilicata), è il simbolo della “puglitudine” in Focaccia Blues, film del 2009 di Nino Cirasola, in cui si racconta la storia vera della più nota catena di fast food costretta a chiudere uno dei suoi punti ad Altamura per la concorrenza dell’imbattibile focaccia locale.Scorriamo ancora questo sterminato elenco per trovare tanti filoni, anche sorprendenti. Se pensiamo alla storia e al fantasy non si può non parlare del maestro Pupi Avati, che con I Cavalieri che fecero l’impresa del 2001 trasforma i paesaggi e i monumenti della Puglia, da Barletta a Otranto, dal Gargano a Brindisi, in una sognata Europa medievale. O di Matteo Garrone e del suo Racconto dei Racconti del 2015, che apre una pagina su tutto il Sud ma anche sulla Puglia, come nell’episodio della pulce a Castel del Monte. Oppure Il Viaggio della Sposa, del 1997, di Sergio Rubini, che usa la sua Puglia, emblema dell’Italia del Seicento, per raccontare una contrastata storia d’amore.Ma si può anche ridere. Oltre al citato e popolarissimo Zalone, lo stesso Rubini è protagonista, in Manuale d’Amore 2, film di Giovanni Veronesi del 2007, nell’episodio dell’esilarante (ma non caricaturale) coppia gay salentina assieme ad Antonio Albanese: i due sono costretti a sposarsi in Spagna, ma non rinunciano alla loro amata terra d’origine. Dalla Puglia sono passati anche Aldo, Giovanni e Giacomo nel loro debutto cinematografico del 1997, Tre Uomini e una gamba, in cui percorrono l’Italia per arrivare, tra mille comiche avventure (e qualche ripensamento), a Gallipoli. Un “prodotto” della terra pugliese, popolarissimo per le sue apparizioni nelle tv locali, Uccio De Santis, si è immerso in un viaggio on the road alla ricerca della felicità in Non me lo dire, film del 2012 del suo sodale Vito Cea – partnership rinnovata quest’anno nel più iconico dei simboli pugliesi in Mi rifaccio il trullo.

Film d’autore, comici, storici, fantasy: ora c’è tutto per renderci conto che l’immagine della Puglia è diventata totale, set perfetto con le sue tante angolazioni, di paesaggio, di suggestioni, di storia. Tanto che anche la Apulia Film Commission ha fatto e sta facendo un grande lavoro,

che prosegue con l’ultimo bando da poco presentato in cui sono stanziati tre milioni euro per attirare nuova cinematografia. Un fermento di cui sono esempio i film appena conclusi di Luca Miniero (Non c’è più religione, girato tra Foggia e il Gargano), Marco Ponti (Io che amo sempre solo te) e ancora Edoardo Winspeare con il suo La vita in comune. Poi documentari, fiction (come Questo è il mio paese, successo di Rai 1 con Violante e Michele Placido), cinema d’autore (con i nuovi lavori di Vito Palmieri, Pippo Mezzapesa e Pierluigi Ferrandini) e anche kolossal come Wonder Woman, il film della Warner Bros sull’eroina dei fumetti, in uscita nel 2017.

Sì, forse così ci dimenticheremo, anche se poi è un dolce e misterioso ricordo, di quei trulli in bianco e nero, unico simbolo, in quegli anni da poco trascorsi, di una regione dalle mille bellissime sfaccettature.
