Almeno per due buone ragioni: la prima è che l’area di Pompei è vasta 10 volte quella dello scavo di Ercolano: quindi, quest’ultimo si prestava e si presta meglio ad un’azione di sostegno, con risultati visibili, in tempi rapidi. La seconda è che Ercolano, dimensioni a parte, non è meno importante di Pompei e, anzi, presenta caratteristiche uniche e preziose, più preziose ancora di quelle riscontrabili a Pompei. Quali? Ad esempio il fatto che a Ercolano, a differenza di Pompei, è possibile studiare la composizione della popolazione attraverso gli scheletri ben conservati delle persone sorprese dalla nube di ceneri e gas roventi che li investì durante l’eruzione del Vesuvio del 79 avanti Cristo (la stessa che sommerse la popolazione di Pompei). In più c’è da notare che
Si tratta di un successo incontestabile, frutto della volontà di tutti gli artefici dell’accordo – Ministero dei Beni Culturali, Soprintendenza, Fondazione Packard – di lavorare insieme, senza riserve e inutili protagonismi.
In gioco c’è la salvaguardia di un bene comune dal valore inestimabile, fonte di scoperte continue e laboratorio archeologico-didattico senza precedenti.
L’auspicio di Myrrha è che l’esempio del progetto di Ercolano possa essere seguito anche altrove, in Italia. Per non far deperire, irresponsabilmente, vestigia e memoria storica del nostro prodigioso passato.
